When God’s Not Fair!

When I was in college I dated a guy who told me he was less blessed than the rest of the world and that God had somehow overlooked him.  I knew he didn’t believe he got the short end of the stick with me (although I was short), but I also knew his beliefs were a clear red flag when it came to marriage.

Have you felt overlooked by God ~ like you missed the blessing, the promotion, the girlfriend, the health, the wealth, the dream?

I believe God would say, “Don’t believe the lies.  I’m your all-sufficient one.  Open your eyes.  I’ll take care of you.  Trust Me.  I have only My best in mind for you!”

In blessing us with kids, God shows us His perspective on comparison.  Parents know our kids are winners, but when someone gets a bigger piece of pie, they can become pathetic whiners!

They even compare trials.  “How come I get a five minute time out when Johnny only gets a two minute time out?  No fair!  You love Johnny better!”

Adults compare bigger toys and trials (ie. houses, muscles, cars, cellulite, kids’ behavior, bank accounts, body parts and overall poundage!).

When we’re tempted to think God isn’t fair, it helps to remember, “When someone has been given much, much will be required in return.”  (Luke 12:48) It all balances in the end.  Susie’s big house requires twice the time and energy.  Terrific Tina’s trio of talents leave her more accountable to God for how she uses them.

I’ve got an idea: Why don’t you and I give our heavenly Daddy a break and fast from comparison for a month?  We’ll get skinny in the whineys and all bulked up in trust and contentment!

Hmm… I wonder who’ll get content the fastest ~ you or me!?  ;)

“When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise.”  2 Corinthians 10:12

“What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things.”  Philippians 3:8

“I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.” Romans 8:18
