In 1997, Suzy Mellen was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole for a horrendous crime she did not commit. In prison, she fell in love with Jesus and decided to live in victory and serve the women she met there. She held prayer meetings, volunteered as a Bible study leader, and participated in every spiritual activity she could. Suzy won the trust, respect, and admiration of other inmates and prison staff. She refused defeat and became more assertive in her faith and confidence. Suzy never gave up hope someone would someday help her reveal the truth. In 2014, 17 years after she was convicted and sentenced, a judge declared her factually innocent.
Today, Suzy continues her ministry of serving others on the outside. She hosts an Aglow neighborhood lighthouse weekly Bible study in her home, serves on the Aglow Prison Ministries board as the outreach director, and is involved with Aglow International. She volunteers weekly with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes to minister to local high school students. Suzy hosts parties for the Innocence Network clients and their attorneys and supports newly freed inmates in integrating into society. She recently started The Bracelet Project. Suzy and her team pray over bracelets and give them to students, seniors, and the homeless. She lives in Southern California and is the mother of three grown successful children and grandmother of three.
