Baby Steps

[box] “Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:4[/box]

Our family recently laughed ourselves silly in front of videos of our kids as babes.

Highchair time was clearly more about playing than the serious art of eating.  Carrot and pea-smothered faces, proud monosyllabic babbles for the camera ~ great material!

The boys, now teens, howled watching one of them make his first crawl, or should I say first scoot.  “Come on!  You can do it!”  Frustrated when his body wouldn’t cooperate, he whined and got feisty.  Finally, with a grunt and push of a chubby leg, he did it!  A few takes later, and he was an old pro, stopping every couple inches to give himself a clap.

The Father’s Delights

Some of our antics surely give God a laugh.  Daddy loves watching us learn, grow, and discover His world, and He never misses a beat.

[box] All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. Psalm 139:16[/box]

God gives you many gifts, opportunities, and talents.  Sometimes you’ll play more than pray.  Other days you’ll mess your face; but God remains patient, abounding in grace.

He gives you freedom to grow and expand your territory.  When things don’t go as fast as you planned, rather than whine like a bent-out-of-shape toddler, keep going.  Your Father cheers you on: “You can do it.  Don’t give up!”

Look up!

Keep finding the bright side.  Learn to laugh at yourself and enjoy the process.

Reward your progress with little claps.  You’re not what you used to be and you’re not what you’re going to be.  You’re slowly scooting forward, becoming more humble like Christ, every little leg-shaky step of the way.

[box] “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6[/box]

See any glimmers of truth in the lives of children around you lately?
