De-stressing

Corrie ten Boom

If anyone had reason to worry or panic it was holocaust survivor, Corrie ten Boom; but she held her peace because she needed it to face her impossible challenges.

So do we.

Life is hard, time is short, people need us.  We need peace.

Worry’s tough to kick because it clings under the pretense that it’s actually doing something (other than leaching our strength.)

People spend big bucks on stress management, but Jesus gives us the keys:

Be eternity-minded.

Adjust your perception to match Mine.  “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me… My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:29-30

Don’t fear man.  Fear and reverence Me.

Don’t get wrapped up in tomorrow.

Trust Me.  Don’t lean on your own understanding.

In all your ways, acknowledge Me, and I will direct your path. Proverbs 3:5-6

Easy to say, but how do you do it? How do you take on His yoke? All of a sudden, little thoughts are creeping into my mind that shouldn’t be there, how do they get there, I didn’t ask them in, I don’t want them there. How do you become eternity minded, it just all seems to be too much.

Thanks for your honest comment, Elaine! I face the same battle. Becoming eternity-minded isn’t easy, nor does it come naturally. It’s a new way of thinking that requires practice, and the constant help of the Holy Spirit, our Helper.

“That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.” (2 Corinthians 4:16-18 NLT)

This is one of my favorite passages because it helps me think like Christ, who, for the joy set before Him, endured the cross.

When I meditate on God’s character, I “fix my gaze on the unseen.” God is all-powerful. He will take care of my problems. God is all-knowing. He knows me better than anyone. God is love – sacrificial, perfect love. The Creator of the Universe is everywhere, infinite, beyond time; and He wants to help me de-stress!

Meditating on Christ’s words, ways and directives transforms negative self-talk into positive self-talk. We can use Scripture as a spiritual to-do list that guides us in the right direction when our stress-filled minds want to pull us every which way.

    I hope this helps.

So sorry you think so; but unloading worry is God’s idea, not mine. You’ll have to take it up with Him. He’s also the one who empowers us to de-stress. Without Him, we can do nothing. At least nothing worth doing. Or saying. Lord, fill our mouths with loving, uplifting words.

I Agree with the picture but why should god have to take all our crap! we need to learn to not blame things on others just to get it out of our systems and rather just forget about these bad thoughts by thinking of the good

God chooses to take all our “crap.” He came to take our blame and our shame. He forgives us so we’ll forgive others. You’re right about how we shouldn’t blame others, and how we should think on what’s good. We need to partner with God to do that. He wants to help us. He knows our bodies aren’t designed to carry unnecessary stress. That’s what I’m talking about here. We have a mission to accomplish. There’s people we need to love in Jesus’ name.
